HEADERS
Headers are supposed to be used when there is a door hanging on a side panel instead of the wall, such as in a Neo-Angle.
The alternatives to using a header are:
1. Have the side panels go to the ceiling
2. Hinge the door off the wall
3. Hinge the door off the side panel and use 1/2"
Glass for the side panel and 3/8" glass for the door. There may still be some wobble in the door, especially if the the side panel is large, as in this photo.
4. Use a Support Bar
Neo angles can
be done with no header but the side panels should be
1/2" glass and securely fastened with Bolt-Through-the-Glass Brackets.
When you buy a
Kit from Wilson Glass with the glass, we cut the header
and prep it to make installation easy.
Headers come with eight feet of CLEAR VINYL for 3/8" glass and eight feet of vinyl for 5/16" glass. America doesn't have 5/16" glass so this can be confusing.
The vinyl is just for the sidel lights at the top where they go into the header. You probably need very little.
1/2" glass uses silicon, not vinyl.
TWO MORE IMPORTANT CHOICES:
REAL CHROME HEADER: This is aluminum with chrome plating. The chrome is highly polished and I think probably worth the $200 to $300 more. The alternative is the above headers which only come in polished aluminum and you can tell the difference even from a few yards away.
REAL CHROME U-CHANNEL: real chromed U-Channel. It costs $80 more than the aluminum U-Channel. The U-channel is real solid 1/8" thick brass with chrome plating and it's 5/8" tall. It's normally $250 but these pieces have slight blemishes which are nearly invisible.
SOLID BRASS HEADER: The last choice is a solid brass header with real chrome plating. Or high polished brass. Much better than bright gold anodized. But the solid brass header is expensive. |
We replace the
brackets that come with the headers with these heavy
duty solid brass brackets.
The Wall Mount
Bracket below requires one hole per side which is drilled
at an angle. The bracket slides into a grove in the
top of the header.
We can sell these
over the phone but there is not much point in listing
them on line because you will want us to cut them to
size for you and that requires a phone call and or drawings
by e-mail or fax.
Shipping on a full stock length costs about the same
as having us cut the header.
